![]() Could it really be that the dlink router is that crappy? What I tried yesterday was hooking up the powerline adapter to my Linksys instead of the Dlink (I had uninstalled the Linksys thinking I wouldn't need it after getting the powerline kit) and so far it seems that the TV issues have gone away, but I haven't watched enough TV to verify this. Oh, and my Optik STB is fed over coaxial. But honestly, if a new router can resolve my issues, I'd be happy to return the LiveWire for the $115 I spent on it. Also, streaming video via TVersity on my PS3 wasn't great over WiFi. I actually hooked an old Linksys WRT54GL to the Dlink router and used it and it's a bit better, but I was still facing lag issues, so I decided to try powerline ethernet and so far it's a bit better, but it's hard to determine when you're playing online if it's your connection causing the lag or that of the other player. I don't know if it's just that the Dlink is terrible, but over WiFi I get horrible ping spikes and most games are unplayable. The powerline ethernet is mainly for my PS3. Thanks, Wiremonkey - greatly appreciate your help! Why not use wifi for the PS3? I use wifi for one of my 2 PS3s and have no issues with gaming or Netflix on wifi. If its CAT5 it could be as simple as a staple through a wire or damage to the wire.ĭon't let it get you too upset, a tech will fix it up. hiden non-TELUS splitters cause serious issues for data throughput bad barrels in the jacks, old worn out barrels cause issues poor connectors, if the connectors are not a compression type there will be issues loose connections, if you can undo a coax connection on Optik service with you fingers its too loose If your STBs are fed over coax then I would say its a coax issue that can be readilly resolved with a little diligence on the part of a tech.Ĭommon coax issues include, but are not limited to The D-Link is no longer the unit for OptikTV, the Actiontec is the default unit and all other configurations are to be removed and converted to Actiontec on any tech visit for any trouble, even if it isn't modem related. If you are on a D-Link 3810 then the first thing to do for the tech is change out the router to an Actiontec. OptikTV will not run well on ethernet over power (it has been field trialed and abandoned), so I hope its not the OptikTV STB your trying to run over your powerline adapter. Only thing keeping me from having done that 6 months ago is that I love my Optik TV service much more that Shaw's. I don't know what it is that's causing all these issues - maybe I need a new router or whatever, or maybe I need to have a tech sent to check the wiring, but I'm extremely close to going back to Shaw. About two months ago I was on the phone with a Telus tech for over 1.5 hours and all he did was remotely upgrade my firmware (he almost screwed it up and bricked my router) and it was useless as the issues all persisted. I was with Shaw before in the same address for 3 years and NEVER had ANY issues. To add to that, my internet regularly has brief 10-15 second dropouts (since day 1) and it drives me nuts. After installing it, my Optik TV service has been affected somehow - perhaps interference or something: regular pixelation and brief dropouts, and it's bloody annoying. So, I decided to purchase a WD Livewire powerline ethernet kit.
